Schools Recognize Orchard as a Key Component in Earning
National Title I Distinction!
ST. LOUIS, Mo., March 6, 2008 -- Siboney Learning Group, publisher of Orchard Software, salutes
the achievement of two Orchard customers, University Park Elementary of Casper, Wyo., and
Sacramento Elementary of Portland, Ore. Both schools were named Distinguished Schools for 2007
by the National Association of State Title I Directors. University Park principal Sally Huber and
Sacramento principal Stevie Blakely received the recognition along with members of their faculties at
the association's annual conference in Nashville, Tenn. this past February.
Each school expresses its ideals and expectations in a motto. The students and educators at
University Park will tell you that "hard work, done well, feels good." The Sacramento lementary
community believes in "Success for Every Student" and that "all students can and will learn." The
National Title I Distinguished School distinction is a tribute to these high ideals and to the
commitment of the schools' leadership, teachers, students, and parents.
Each school is proud to acknowledge that Orchard Software has played a key role in their instruction
and intervention strategies.
"We use Orchard two ways in our intervention strategies," said Huber. "In the fall we administer the
Orchard pre-assessment to identify instructional needs; students then work in Orchard two to three
times a week. We also use it in an after-school program called 'Bridges.'"
"Orchard math and reading have assisted our teachers in developing appropriate, research-based
interventions for both advanced and struggling students," said Blakely. "The data in Orchard reports
help teachers make adjustments in students' instruction and present the students with additional
learning experiences."
Since 1996, the National Association of State Title I Directors has recognized Title I schools either for closing the achievement gap between student groups or for exceptional student performance over
two or more consecutive years. Both University Park Elementary and Sacramento Elementary earned
the Distinguished School distinction for closing the achievement gap between student groups.
